Udaipur, known as the City of Lakes, is a treasure trove of history, culture, and natural beauty. Here’s a perfect 1-day itinerary to immerse yourself in its charm, starting at dawn and ending under the starlit skies..

6:00 AM – Sunrise at Lake Pichola
Begin your day early with a visit to Lake Pichola, one of Udaipur’s most iconic lakes. As the sun rises, the serene waters reflect hues of gold and pink, offering a magical start to your day. Take a leisurely stroll along the lakeside ghats, soaking in the tranquility before the city stirs to life.
Tip : Try Doodh Talai area for a quieter morning or Try Lalghat to see the morning activities of the locals come to life at the ‘ghat’

7:30 AM – Explore Jagdish Temple
Next, head to Jagdish Temple, a magnificent example of Indo-Aryan architecture. This 17th-century temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and features intricately carved pillars, a stunning shikhar (spire), and a peaceful atmosphere. The morning aarti (prayer) is a beautiful experience to witness.
Tip : Do wear appropriate clothing and shoes that are comfortable and in which you can walk around the streets. Carry cash and change in case you feel like buying some items from the markets.

8:30 AM – Walk Through the Old City
From Jagdish Temple, wander through the narrow lanes of Udaipur’s old city. Admire the colorful houses, intricate doorways, and bustling bazaars selling everything from traditional textiles to miniature paintings. This walk is a sensory delight and gives you a glimpse of everyday life in Udaipur.

10:00 AM – City Palace Tour
Make your way to the City Palace, a majestic complex perched on the banks of Lake Pichola. Spanning over more than 400 years, the palace offers Mewari architecture with influences of other regions. Explore its stunning premises, grand halls, and the museums and showcases of royal artifacts. Don’t miss the breathtaking views of the lake from its terraces.
Tip : Do check what areas your passes include and ask what else is available to see as different areas / activities might need different passes. And, cameras are allowed on a chargeable basis.

12:30 PM – Visit Saheliyon Ki Bari
After the palace, head to Saheliyon Ki Bari (Garden of the Maidens). This lush garden, adorned with fountains, marble pavilions, and lotus pools, was designed for royal women. It’s a great spot to relax and escape the midday heat while appreciating its historical charm.
Tip : Because this is in the newer part of the city, you could choose to skip this and rest up at the hotel instead.

2:00 PM – Lunch at Jagat Niwas Palace
Enjoy a leisurely lunch at Jagat Niwas Palace, a heritage property with a stunning lakeside view. Relish local Rajasthani dishes while soaking in the beauty of Lake Pichola and the surrounding Aravalli Hills.
Tip : Even if you are staying at the hotel, book a Window Seat ( Gokhra ) beforehand for stunning pictures.  

3:30 PM – Monsoon Palace (Sajjangarh Fort)
In the afternoon, take a short drive to the Monsoon Palace, perched atop a hill overlooking Udaipur. This 19th-century palace offers panoramic views of the city, lakes, and surrounding countryside. It’s a photographer’s paradise and a great spot to appreciate Udaipur’s natural beauty.
Tip : Amazing for sunsets as well. Check out the Fateh Sagar on your way to either Saheliyon Ki Badi or Sajjangarh.

5:30 PM – Boat Ride on Lake Pichola
Return to Lake Pichola for a sunset boat ride. As the golden hour sets in, glide past landmarks like the Lake Palace, Jag Mandir, and the City Palace, all beautifully lit and reflected in the water. The boat ride is a serene and picturesque experience, perfect for the evening.
Tip : You could see the Jag Mandir if you take a boat from the City Palace

7:00 PM – Cultural Show at Bagore Ki Haveli
Conclude your day with a visit to Bagore Ki Haveli, located near Gangaur Ghat. Attend the Dharohar Dance Show, a lively performance showcasing Rajasthani folk dances, music, and puppetry. It’s an immersive cultural experience that offers a glimpse into the region’s vibrant heritage.
Tip : The Gangaur Ghat which is adjacent to the Bagore Ki Haveli is also a great spot to hang and get some cool pictures.

9:00 PM – Evening Walk and Reflection
End your day with a quiet walk along Ambrai Ghat, where the shimmering lights of the City Palace and Lake Pichola create a mesmerizing scene. Reflect on your day’s adventures and soak in the serene ambiance before calling it a night.
Tip : The steps at Ambrai Ghat are vibrant and popular with tourists and locals alike so do spend some time there and enjoy the city life unfold at night.
